E-Cigarette Consumption by Teens

A recent medical study has revealed that American teenagers are much more likely to smoke electronic cigarettes if their family and friends adopt a lenient perspective. According to a Reuters report, e-cigarettes were first introduced in China in 2004, and have become extremely popular in the U.S. over the past few years.

According to the study’s head author, Jessica Barrington-Trimis of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, the public health community is worried about e-cigarettes and their popularity among young people. They worry that the new method of consuming nicotine will convince a whole group of otherwise non-smokers to start the habit.

Previous studies have shown links between people who smoke traditional cigarettes and people who use electronic “vapor” cigarettes, but the new study says that teens who begin using e-cigs on their own are in a separate, unique group.
