How can I get my stepdad to stop smoking?

My stepdad is 41, and I want him to stop smoking. Partly because I care about his health, but also because I am fed up with breathing in his second-hand smoke! Help!

just tell him that you are sick and tired of breathing in the smoke and tell him if he wont quit at least don’t smoke around you
He wont quit until and unless HE is ready, sorry.
just give up and start enjoying life with a cigarette yourself!!! he loves the smoke and you could to.
Agree with others that he has to want to quit himself. However that doesn’t mean that you can’t help him realize that he wants to quit.
Here’s a couple suggestions that might help nudge him without being pushy.
1. ask him "How much do you think you are spending on cigs a month?" Sound as innocent and sincere as possible and just accept the answer what ever it is without retort. That will put the idea in his head and give him pause to think about the waste of money.
2. Ask him another time do you think you’ll still be smoking when you’re 50? Why / why not? Open ended questions like this can help him to evaluate his smoking without judging or nagging.
Most of the time smokers don’t spend much time actually thinking about and evaluating their decision to continue smoking. It’s on auto pilot. If you can help him to "go there" he can have an opportunity to come to his own conclusion about his need to quit. If you know anyone who he respects that quit smoking, maybe ask that person to reach out to him in a discussion about how he quit and why and the benefits currently enjoyed as a non smoker.
Don’t be discouraged and don’t expect immediate results. Think about his well being more than your frustration with his smoking so that you’ll be more inclined to be sincere in your questions and efforts to help him self educate.
Finally, my wife printed a stack of papers about the harms of smoking and just left it where I could find it. I let it sit for a couple of weeks before deciding to read it on my own and it really helped me. If you are a person of faith at all, prayer doesn’t hurt either

The best way is to show him how to stop smoking for good. Most smokers smoke because of fear of how difficult it could be to try and stop, and most methods that is true because their success rate is only 5% to 15%.
